About Fantasia Flute Ensemble

Fantasia Flute Ensemble is one of the largest flute choirs in the South West. Formed in 1999 originally to provide an opportunity for flautists to play and meet others, the ensemble has developed into a full flute choir incorporating the entire flute range from piccolo to bass. Their unique and enchanting sound combined with a wide and varied repertoire of music makes this young and vibrant ensemble a delight to listen to. Not long after the ensemble was formed, a G treble flute, an alto flute, a bass flute and a huge amount of music was donated by the Wessex Flute Band, a local group that had recently dissolved. It was this good fortune that enabled Fantasia to experiment with new pieces and a new depth of sound. With help from fundraising and a donation from Chippenham Borough Lands Charity the ensemble now has 3 alto flutes and 2 bass flutes, giving it a much needed bass section.

Fantasia is very fortunate to receive tremendous support from its members, their families, local organisations and its growing mailing list. They perform regularly in the Wiltshire and Bath area often with other well-known local groups and have performed at the Chippenham Arts Festival, the Devizes Eisteddfod, the Wiltshire Music Centre and many more venues from schools to churches and charity events to major concerts. In April 2004 they toured in and around the French town La Fleche, twinned with Chippenham. A small ensemble of eight flautists from Fantasia performs regularly and recently had the privilege of playing for a dinner organised by the Mayor of Chippenham. Members of the ensemble have appeared on TV for BBC Children In Need and have also had the opportunity to work with international flautists such as Susan Milan, William Bennett & Mike Mower.
